Expert Witness
There may be times when directors will be required to provide evidence in a legal context. This can be for personal, internal, or external matters that the director might be involved with.
As engineers, managers, and directors we certainly hope that by following best practices, being compliant, and discharging our legal duties, we will avoid getting drawn into legal situations. However, we are sure that we have all experienced how accidents can happen, and external factors and forces can require us to act to provide evidence or speak up as a witness.
Indeed, some engineers, managers, and directors will take this a stage further and provide services to function as a professional witness or indeed as an expert witness. It is therefore important that we can keep and maintain good records which we may later be required to reference or submit. Good records should always be kept as benign events can unfold to quickly transform into a legal situation.
The issue is that it's sometimes difficult to predict which events will escalate. Our experience in good record keeping has helped prevent events.
As expert witnesses, we specialize in a particular field to give independent opinions on the facts of a case. Our role is to help the decision-maker(s) to understand the case and to interpret the facts.
